NRG at FedExField

NRG at FedExField for the Washington Football Team
Landover, Maryland

Design Achievement
DLR Group partnered with NRG Energy, a Fortune 500 company, to develop a large-scale solar array at FedExField, the home stadium of the Washington Football Team. The design approach for this project focuses on the future of renewable energy application and production. DLR Group's design seamlessly integrates the solar system into the stadium's architecture, creating an aesthetic that enhances the overall game experience for fans. Notable features of the solar system include an NRG branded entry gate, a dynamic LED lighting system that illuminates the facade of a pedestrian entrance ramp, and a 30-foot tall silhouette of a quarterback known as "Solar Man." Signage elements incorporated into the campus draw inspiration from the stadium's original architecture, ensuring a cohesive visual identity.

Scope Summary
The project incorporates ten electric vehicle charging stations from NRG's eVgo charging network, all prominently branded with the NRG logo. Additionally, information kiosks located in the parking lot and at the NRG entry plaza serve to educate fans about renewable energy and highlight NRG's clean energy solutions. Throughout the project, the NRG logo and associated brand elements are integrated, creating a cohesive visual identity. DLR Group played a key role in providing architecture, engineering, and experiential graphic design services for the project.
